COUNCIL APPROVES
SCHOOL FIELD SALE
Monmouthshire County Council has put forward a proposal to sell part of
the Caldicot Comprehensive School sports field for the building of a supermarket.
A spokesperson for the school pointed out that the school’s governors
have not been informed. The issue was considered by the governors some
years ago, when it was agreed to consider the possibility of a sale under
very strict conditions. These included all the money from the sale coming
to the school and the sale raising sufficient funds to finance a remodelling
of the school site so that there was no deterioration in facilities for
outdoor education. It is believed that the proposal does not meet these
conditions and that there is likely to be opposition to the sale from
within the governing body of the school. No offer has yet been made to
buy the land in question.
PARK TO BE
IMPROVED
Caldicot’s Birbeck Park is to be refurbished and upgraded following
an extensive local fundraising campaign and a grant of £40,000 from
the Welsh Assembly Government.
