NEW SUPERMARKET PROPOSAL
The long-running saga of plans to build a new supermarket in Caldicot took a dramatic new twist with an application by Castlegate Business Park to build a supermarket on the outskirts of Caldicot. The scheme was seen as jeopardising Monmouthshire County Council’s plans for building on part of the comprehensive school field and in turn threaten plans for improvements to the school (see below). In spite of a request by Castlegate to defer a decision on the school field, MCC agreed to sell the land and stated that its “policy preference” was for a site near the centre of the town.
COUNCIL DOWNGRADES PLANS FOR SCHOOL
Monmouthshire County Council announced that it had downgraded its plans to build a new school and community campus on the comprehensive school site. Initial proposals to spend £209 million on school building in the county had been cut to £79 million. Instead of a new school, the school would be “remodelled”. No detailed plans of the “remodelled” school were available.
MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO ATTEMPTED MURDER
At the start of his trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Michael Ball of Sandy Lane, Caldicot, pleaded guilty to attempting to kill his wife. The trial was adjourned for reports, but the judge warned Ball that he faced a “lengthy custodial sentence”.
CCTV IMPROVEMENT
Caldicot Town Council decided to upgrade CCTV cameras in the town at a cost of £8,500.

The cheapest house advertised in the local press for sale in Caldicot at the end of November 2011 was a two-bedroom end link house in Stafford Road at £114,950. The most expensive was Secunda Barn, a four-bedroom barn conversion at £470, 000.
