HOSPITAL WARD CLOSURE OPPOSED
Local campaigners claimed that vulnerable people in Caldicot will be at risk if plans by Aneurin Bevan Health Board to close St Pierre dementia ward at Chepstow Community Hospital go ahead. Caldicot Town Council also voiced its opposition to the closure. If the unit closes, patients and visitors would have to make use of services at St Woolos Hospital in Newport, or Ysbyty Tri Chwm in Ebbw Vale.
PIZZA JOINT TO OPEN
Domino’s Pizza announced that their planned takeaway and restaurant would open in Caldicot in 2018, a new store in Caldicot next year, creating 30 jobs. Domino’s would occupy the units formerly occupied by the British Heart Foundation and Concord Discount in the town centre. Planning permission was granted in spite of some opposition by locals with worries over litter and adverse impact on existing traders.
