Cor Meibion Caldicot was formed in 1963 by men who moved to the area from all over Wales to man the furnaces and mills of the new steelworks at Llanwern. The Choir quickly established itself and today can look back with pride on its achievements and successes in the competition arena, which include first prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and five places at Miners' Eisteddfod. The Choir is also justly proud of the prominence that it has attained on the concert stage.

The Choir have toured abroad many times, including visits to the United States of America, Canada, Holland and Germany. They have also traveled extensively throughout Great Britain giving concerts, mostly for charitable causes, and are proud of the many thousands of pounds they have helped to raise.

Preparations are underway for the next tour which takes place in the Millennium, once again visiting the western seaboard of the United States of America.

Having performed in many notable venues world-wide, none gave Cor Meibion Caldicot more pride than to be invited to sing at the "THREE TENORS" concert at Wembley stadium in July 1996. To be applauded by the Prime Minister, John Major, and complemented by Messrs Pavirotti, Domingo and Carreras has to be the ultimate accolade.

Joint funded by The National Lottery, The Arts Council of Wales, Local Councils, Business and its own Membership, the Choir were delighted to open its own purpose built Practise Hall and Function Suit in 1996. This has quickly gained the reputation as a centre of excellence in Music and Entertainment.

Musical Director - Sian Hatton

Born in Tredegar, Sian is a graduate of the Welsh College of Music and Drama, studying singing under Margaret Tann Williams. She is also an accomplished accompanist having received her piano tuition from Patrick Piggott. Since graduating she has toured Great Britain extensively as a vocal soloist and has sung under the baton of both Arthur Davison and Sir Harry Mortimer. She is a licentiate of Trinity College London and an Associate of the London College of Music.

Sian was appointed the Musical Director of Cor Meibion Caldicot in 1988. She has conducted the Choir on all of its recent tours abroad including Waghausel in Germany (Caldicot's twin town), California and Ontario in Canada. Despite her intense musical training, Sian now pursues a very different career as a Registered Nurse preferring to keep music as a hobby rather than a profession.

Assistant to the Musical Director - John Wigley

John was born and bred in Derbyshire where he spent many years involved with the brass band movement. He moved to Chepstow in 1988 and within a year had become a member of the Choir. Since then he has become an ever increasing asset to the Choir, not only on the management side, but also by accepting the post of Assistant to the Musical Director.

Accompanist - Meurig Jones

Although having played for the Choir many years ago, Meurig rejoined as co-accompanist in early 1997. Born in Caernarvon, North Wales he has lived on Chepstow for more than thirty years. Besides competing in National and International Eisteddfods, he has been the official accompanist for the Urdd Eisteddfod on many occasions. During his service years Meurig was Bandmaster at Kasfareet MEAF and conducted the massed bands for the Queen's Coronation.
