Monmouthshire's Community StrategyThe community strategy in Monmouthshire is called Our County, Our Future. It sets out how organisations in the county are going to work together to improve the economical, social and environmental well being of Monmouthshire.
Background
All local authorities in Wales have a statutory duty to lead on the development of a community strategy in their area, working in partnership with other local organisations to do so. Monmouthshire County Council did this through its work with the Monmouthshire Partnership.
Following a period of consultation on the draft community strategy during the summer of 2004, the community strategy was agreed and adopted by the Monmouthshire Partnership in July 2004, and by the County Council in September 2004. Copies were distributed to members of the Monmouthshire Partnership so that delivery could commence in time for its October 2004 meeting. So, what is the community strategy all about?
Our County, Our Future carries three simple messages:
Its about working with communities to find out what people think, need and aspire to. Its about local organisations working together, sharing resources and being better at what they do for their communities. Its about creating a shared vision for the future, where the community knows where it wants to be and what it wants to look like.
The 5 themes for MonmouthshireThe Monmouthshire Partnership has agreed that the five key issues in the county are:
- A better environment
- Lifelong learning and experience
- Local economic development
- Health and well being
- Stronger and safer communities
For each theme of the strategy there is an action plan containing projects and initiatives that will help contribute towards that theme.
