The Third Age: a time of creativity and fulfilment for older people

WHAT is U3A:
U3A stands for the University of the Third Age.What is the Third Age:
The Third Age refers to the period of time after the First Age of childhood dependence and the Second Age of full-time employment and parental responsibility.

One in five U K population is in the Third Age.

U3A is a learning co-operative of older people which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities.

The aim is to attract 3rd agers to organise their activities collectively so as to draw on the knowledge, skills and experience of one another,Why are we called the U3A?

The U3A is a university in the original sense of the word: a collective of people devoted to learning, and members are in the Third Age.

Some U3As are linked to Universities but most are not and are thus more informal in character and attractive to a wider range of 3rd agers.

Who can join U3A? Anyone in the Third Age not in full time employment can join U3A - all you need is interest and enthusiasm! It is called a university, but it has members, not students. No qualifications are required, and none are given.

Monthly branch meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 2.15 p.m.
in the Caldicot Choir Hall
