HIGHLIGHTS OF MY CHILDHOOD by Carol Elliott (nee Jones)
In my childhood days I attended, with my mother and sister, the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in the village of Undy.
On Easter day we had our Sunday School Anniversary and mother always made us a new dress for the occasion. On Easter Monday, people from the Methodist Chapels in Newport were invited to our Anniversary tea. Some cycled out while others came on the bus. After tea they would go for a walk up through the woods by the chapel, to pick bluebells.
In August we always had a Sunday School outing to Barry, the day we all looked forward to, going to the seaside. We always went to the Merry Friars hotel for our tea, which consisted of bread and butter with jam and a cake. We were also given a shilling to spend at the fair before we went home.
