Literature Group: by Noreen Reynolds

Caldicot U3A Literature group is a small gathering of members who meet on the first Monday of each month to hear guest speakers. We also discuss various interests relating to literature, local productions and own reading.

On the re-opening of the group, we visited the Caldicot library, where we were shown various aspects of the organisation of a modern library. Also included was a look at the making of a tapestry, depicting local scenes.

We have had a visit from the Lydney Librarian, who gave us a talk on her 'Diary of the Forest', which is broadcast occasionally on Radio Gloucester.

Other talks have featured a speech therapist, a Welsh poet and, more recently, a journalist, who told us how our local newspaper, 'The South Wales Argus', is run.

Last month, a talk was given by the proprietor of a local bookshop, entitled 'How a Book is Made' , describing the processes from publisher to printer.

The group provides interesting afternoons, which are enjoyable, varied and informative for all who care to attend.
