Park at the Whitestones Car Park, Bargain Wood on the Catbrook road from Wye Valley Hotel, Tintern.

1 With your back to the toilets go straight ahead up the slope, signposted Wye Valley Walk. Towards the top look for the viewpoints over the Wye Valley. Turn right at the top along the Wye Valley Walk to Cleddon Shoots.

2 Turn left through the village passing on your right Cleddon Hall, where Bertrand Russel was born. Turn left to the road; turn left again then right into Nine Wells Wood. Go through the gate and around to the right, proceeding up the straight, forestry path to a well defined path on your left 3, into the wood (a distance of about 300 yards). Follow the path until you reach a junction with three paths. Bearing slightly right, take the middle path upwards through the wood to a gate and two bungalows.

4 Go through another two gates to a road, cross and follow the grassy path over a stone stile into a field. Follow the path, turn left towards the wood and proceed over a stone stile through the wood to a road. 5 Turn left then almost immediately right along the bridleway. Then left up to Well Farm House and through the gate on the right. The path passes through three gates to the left of the barn. Proceed up the incline through a gate and upwards to the left hand corner where there is a stile and fingerpost.

6 On the road turn right and enjoying the lovely views on your right, proceed to the fingerpost on your left directing you to Catbrook. Follow this and turn right at Grove Cottage 7. Along this road there are panoramic views on your left.

8 At the T junction turn left noting the "VR" post box in the wall on your left. Follow the finger post "Botany Bay". Keep to the left of the stone wall, enter the wood over a stile and proceed to a junction of four paths.

9 Take the left path to a gate and stile and proceed through the tractor yard onto the road.

10 Cross the road and enter Creigiau Wood and follow the path back to the car park at Bargain Wood.
