Walk Five

Moderate Walk

A 4.5 mile walk with lovely views. Llangwm is situated on the B4235 Chepstow to Usk Road. Park at the village roadside car park (50 yards from St. John's Hall).

1 From the car park, turn right along the pavement to a road junction and cross the road to a fingerpost (take care this is a busy road!). Go over three stiles then turn left up the road for ¼ mile to "Cefn-Bychan Farm". Just past the farm take the fingerpost and stile on your left and keeping the hedge on your left, cross the next three fields to a double stile. Following the waymarker, cross the field to a gap in the hedge and then straight ahead to another gap. Turn slightly right to a gate and fingerpost onto a
road 2.

Go right and follow the road to the right past "Little Ty-Gwyn" and onward to "Ty-Wilson Farm" and duckpond. Turn left at the duckpond down the lane to a finger post and gate on your right.
Go through or over the gate and keeping the hedge to your right, make for the bottom right hand corner of the field to a gate (you are now in Coed Cwnwr Village). To your left are interesting "Alms Houses" dating back to 1820. Turn right and at the road junction turn left up the road to a fingerpost on your left; over a stile and through a small gate into a field. Keeping the hedge to your right, walk to the top right hand corner of the field and through a gap in the hedge, turn and follow a small path cutting off corners of the next two fields. Proceed straight ahead to "Springdale Farm" 3
and keep to the left of the house onto a lane (at this point, for fine views of the Abergavenny hills and Raglan Castle, go left down the lane for 100 yards to a stile viewing point).
Back to the walk, go right at Springdale House and up the lane to a T junction. A fingerpost now points the way to a stile at the bottom of the field. Keep straight ahead down the field to a wood 4. Keeping the wood to your left down to a stile, follow the waymarker down the wood, over the stream and up the bank to a stile. Follow the waymarker to another stile at the top of the field, left of the farmhouse.

Cross the lane and the stile by the adjoining gate, walk down the field to a stile at the bottom of the hedge. Go left here then over three more stiles into "Chapel Farm" 5
(keep all gates shut passing through property!).

"Llangwm Chapel" on your right was erected in 1840 and used as a post office in the 1960's. Proceed down the road, turn left and return to the car park.
